January 2005 Newsletter Happy New Year ! As always, thank you for visiting https://juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( http://www.fund.org ) and All My Children. (Please let us know First, I wanted to wish you a very happy new year. I hope your holidays were wonderful and that 2005 brings you much joy, health and happiness. Second, I wanted to tell you about our sweet cat Dinah: just shy of 14 years old, she passed away right before Thanksgiving. She had a heart condition and was on medication for the past eighteen months. When it was time, she went very quickly and peacefully. She was just eight weeks old when someone found her wandering in a school yard - and then she joined our family. And now, she joins all of our animal companions who have gone before her. We miss her very much. Our cat Goldie and dog Lucy continue to bring us much joy and we cherish our time with them. With the exception of missing Dinah, our holidays were nice. We stayed home with friends and family and had a terrific time. I always love when our daughter Allison is home from college. We saw a few movies, including "The Aviator," which I really liked. Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing. We also went to the theatre and saw "The Rivals" on Broadway. And as always, we rented lots of movies on DVD and all watched together "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Clueless," and "The Bridge Over the River Kwai." Quite a range of genres, eh ?! On another note, I would like to tell you about a group of my fans who call themselves "The Barr Association." They just celebrated their second anniversary, and they are such a loyal and passionate bunch of people. I am grateful for all they do to support me and my character. So I send a big THANK YOU to each member of the group, and also wanted to let others know about them. To learn more visit: http://www.thebarrassociation.tripod.com. I also wanted to tell you about a special event that All My Children and ABC have planned in celebration of the 35th anniversary of our show: members of our cast (including me!) will appear in a one night show on Broadway to support Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS called "Daytime's Evening on Broadway" on Monday, February 7 at 7:30pm at Town Hall (West 43rd St., NYC). For more info go to: http://www.broadwaycares.org/events/allmychildren05.html Finally, I wanted to remind you that I am unable to respond to autograph photo requests THROUGH MY WEBSITE, but would be MORE THAN HAPPY to do so through REGULAR MAIL. Just write me via regular, old-fashioned snail mail at the studio and I will send you a new autographed 8 x 10 photo. Here is the mailing address: Julia Barr, All My Children, ABC Daytime, , New York, NY 10023. Please continue to send me email if you'd like as well!! Regardless of how you write, or if you even want - or don't want -- a photo, I truly LOVE hearing from all of you, and I DO READ EVERY SINGLE letter that comes my way and I THANK YOU from the bottom of my hear for all of your support. Until next month, all the best and happy 2005, February 2005 Newsletter Hello! As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( fund.org ) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing "unsubscribe" in the subject line.) I received such a huge outpouring of emails from you all about the passing of my dear friend, colleague and co-star the amazing Ruth Warrick. Clearly you all loved her -- and her character Aunt Phoebe - as much as I, and you share my deep sadness at our great loss. Ruth was an amazing woman and I loved her very much on both a personal and professional level. I learned a lot about acting and about life from her and I will always cherish our relationship. I also have been receiving tons of emails from you about John Callahan leaving All My Children. WOW ! Not only did you love his portrayal of Edmund (who doesn't ?!), but you obviously are as fond of him as an actor as I am. I know we at All My Children will miss him. And, the audience will miss a terrific character and actor. I can't tell you how he leaves the show, but I promise it will be an incredibly emotional good-bye. Now, as many of you know, February is my absolute favorite month. My birthday was last week (Thank You for your birthday wishes) and my wedding anniversary is on Valentine's Day, February 14th. My husband and I take this holiday very seriously by eating, drinking and celebrating as much as possible !!!! We really love it. I wanted to tell you about our wonderful All My Children 35th anniversary live show on Broadway to support Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS that was held on February 7 at NYC's Town Hall. The evening was a huge success with over $250,000 raised for the charity. And the show was really fun to be a part of. I sang "Someone to Watch Over Me" in the first act, and really enjoyed hearing my co-stars sing. I particularly loved Vincent's ("David") rendition of "This Is The Moment," "Bobbie's ("Krystal") performance of "Georgia on My Mind," and Susan's ("Erica") "Winning isn't Everything" number. What a night ! Everyone was amazing, and the fan response was fabulous. Thank you to those who were able to attend. Happy February and I'll be back in touch next month.... All the best to you ! March 2005 Newsletter Greetings! As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( fund.org ) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing "unsubscribe" in the subject line.) Many of you are wondering if and when All My Children will mention Ruth Warrick's death on the show. The writers have been working on it and we still don't have a date of when the show will air. I will keep you posted. I do promise that the show will be acknowledging our huge loss. Thank you for your complimentary emails about the Brooke scenes involving Edmund's death. They were difficult to shoot because John Callahan and I really loved working together. I will miss him a great deal. On the personal front, Richie and I just got back from our St. Barth's vacation (see my website for vacation photos!). What a fabulous trip. We relaxed at the pool, explored the island, ate and drank lots of good things..... We rented one of those mini "smart cars" which are unbelievably tiny ! And the roads on the island are very hilly, bumpy and narrow. My husband must have been a race car driver in another life because he was zipping around and terrifying the heck out of me ! It was lots of fun. I also had the chance to read two books while lounging at the pool: The Secret Life of Bees and The Kite Runner. Both were excellent. On another note, I cannot tell you how many emails I get asking about my hair color...I really do appreciate your comments and compliments (who doesn't like a compliment, right ?!). I won't deny that I do get my color "enhanced" but I honestly cannot tell you exactly what color it is (I know some of you wanted the "formula" or color name/brand). The woman who does my color actually is quite a "mixologist" ! The color is her own creation of mixing several different shades together. And, she doesn't do it the same exact color each time. Sorry!! And I know that many of you also want to know the latest products I use on my hair for styling. Lately I've been into Graham Webb "Maximum Hold Gel" and Rusk "Wired." But as some of you know I am a total cosmetics junky so I do get fickle with products. On the animal front, I will be a presenter at the "19th Annual Genesis Awards" produced by the Humane Society of the United States. The awards honor "outstanding individuals whose works have spotlighted animal issues with courage, creativity and integrity." I am proud to be a part of the awards ceremony, which will take place in Los Angeles on March 19th. The ceremony will be taped to air May 14th as a two hour special on Animal Planet. Among those that will also be presenting that evening are my fellow animal lovers Stockard Channing, Ed Asner, Nicollette Sheridan, Alicia Silverstone, Eric Roberts and David Duchovny, and many others. That's it for now !! All the best to you. April 2005 Newsletter Happy Spring! As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( fund.org ) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing "unsubscribe" in the subject line.) As some of you know, I was in Los Angles recently to participate as a presenter at the "19th Annual Genesis Awards" produced by the Humane Society of the United States. It was a terrific event and I had a great time. While I was in California, I also taped an interview for the show "Soap Talk" (on the Soap Net cable channel). That interview will air on Monday, May 2. The Genesis Awards will air on Animal Planet on Saturday, May 14. The All My Children episode many of you have been waiting for - where the great Ruth Warrick (Aunt Phoebe) is memorialized -- is finally coming up. I just received the script and we tape the episode in a few days. It will air on May 15. I think everyone will laugh and cry when they watch - it is truly filled with humor and sadness. There won't be a dry eye in the house. On screen, between the passing of the Edmund character and the passing of the Aunt Phoebe character, Brooke will have a pretty rough time of it in the weeks to come. Stay tuned for Adam to be a great support to her. As you know, while I cannot answer all of your emails personally, I have been trying to respond to some of your questions through this monthly email newsletter. So keep those questions coming ! The most frequently asked question last month was "what are your favorite television shows?" I have to say that I remain a loyal viewer of "ER," which still captures my interest every week. Great acting, and consistently good stories. There is always someone to root for and I usually shed a few tears each episode. I am a big fan of the "Sopranos" and "Six Feet Under" but both have been on hiatus for quite a while. I hear "Six Feet Under" is coming back in June finally. I have gotten addicted to two new shows. One is "Medium" which is very interesting, and the other is what I guess you'd call a "guilty pleasure" - "Wife Swap." I know that sounds nutty, but it really is kind of fascinating to see how people handle situations and circumstances that are totally foreign to them. On the home front, my daughter Allison was home from college for the Easter holiday and will be back again for Passover (we celebrate both holidays). Having her around always makes me very happy and I am enjoying our time together. Whatever holiday you celebrate I hope you enjoy ! Until next month.....all the best to you. May 2005 Newsletter Greetings ! As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( fund.org) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing "unsubscribe" in the subject line.) Thank you so much for the amazing amount of mail and support about the Brooke / Adam scenes over the past few weeks on All My Children! Wow, what great feedback. Glad you are enjoying us as a duo again. As you may know, I absolutely love working with David Canary (Adam) and we are having a blast doing scenes together. Several of you asked if I will be attending the annual All My Children fan club lunch in August. Unfortunately I am not sure yet, and won't know until much closer to the date. We have our annual August vacation already booked and I need to see if we can shuffle the dates. I have a really exciting project to tell you about that my husband and I have been working on. We've created beautiful note cards featuring original artwork by Richie, my brilliant artist husband! He has been painting and drawing over the years and is really talented. Recently he started doing pastels of our friends' cats and dogs as a special tribute to their animal companions past and present. These portraits have become such a hit with our friends, that we decided to turn the project into something we can share with everyone - and hope that it brings attention to how important animal companions are in our lives. The project launches officially JUNE 10 when the cards go on sale, but I wanted to give you a sneak peak of what is going on. Check out the new note cards section of my website Juliarosebarr.com to learn more. There are two card packs available -- "Barney" and "Ollie" each featuring 8 different drawings. Each 8 pack is $14.00 (plus shipping and handling) and will be available exclusively at daisy notes + paper (based in North Carolina). You can order beginning JUNE 10 by calling or emailing . A portion of sales will go to support animal welfare groups. daisynotes.com will also have info on the site in June. Keep your fingers crossed for our show and stars this year at the daytime Emmy Awards which air on CBS on Friday, May 20th! I hope All My Children gets the attention it deserves. Stay tuned.... All my best, June 2005 Newsletter Hi Everyone: As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals (fund.org) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing “unsubscribe” in the subject line.) I just got back from a beach vacation with my daughter Allison and we had a great time! The two of us haven’t spent that much time together in ages and it was such a treat to just relax together. My husband was jealous of our “girl” time, but I’m sure he enjoyed having us out of the house for a few days !! Never a dull moment in our house….. when we got back from vacation, we welcomed our two newest family members: we adopted siblings Stella and Boo, two fluffy, adorable eight week old kittens needing a home. Our grown up dog and cat are of course a bit thrown by all of this, but I have a feeling everyone will get along great once we get through these first few weeks. Right now we have the kittens in a room separated from the other animals so they can adjust and sniff each other through the doors. Anyway, these two cuties are such fun – and already quite mischievous. Stella is black and white, Boo is all black. Their mom must have been Persian because their hair is quite long. I’ll keep you posted on the adjustment process, and I’ll post pictures on the website shortly. The dog and cat note cards are officially on sale, so please be sure to check them out. They are really for a good cause! As I mentioned last month, my artist husband Richie has been painting and drawing over the years and is really talented. Recently he started doing pastels of our friends’ cats and dogs as a special tribute to their animal companions. These portraits have become such a hit with our friends, that we decided to turn the project into something we can share with everyone – and hope that it brings attention to how important animal companions are in our lives. There are two note card packs available to buy, each featuring 8 different drawings. Each 8 pack is $14.00 (plus s + h), and a portion of sales will go to support animal welfare groups. To order please click here daisynotes.com or here juliarosebarr.com. Thank you for your support with this project ! Switching gears…… earlier this week I attended a private memorial service for the late great Ruth Warrick (“Aunt Phoebe”). While there have been previous services held since her passing, this one was very special because it was intimate and only those closest to her attended. It was wonderful to celebrate her life and I was honored to be asked to speak at the service about my relationship with her. I miss her every day and I so appreciate all of the lovely emails you’ve sent to me about Ruth. For those wanting to know if I will be attending the annual official “All My Children” fan club event in NYC on August 21, yes, I plan to be there and I look forward to seeing everyone!! For more info on the club, go to www.amcoltlfanclubs.com Some of you asked if I was able to watch the Daytime Emmy Awards since I did not actually attend the event. Yes, I watched and, of course, I cheered when Eden (ex-“Bianca”) won !! Just wish our show won more awards. Maybe next year….. Stay tuned…. All my best, September 2005 Newsletter As always, thank you for visiting http:/juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals ( http://www.fund.org ) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing "unsubscribe" in the subject line.) WOW ! SUCH an outpouring of mail and support about my contract at All My Children. Thank you so much for expressing your concern over my possibly leaving the show. I still have no news to report regarding upcoming storyline. I promise to keep you informed if and when I know more. Many of you want to know who to write and where to get your voices heard. Here are four good places to start: Brian Frons, President Soap Opera Digest Julie Carruthers Soap Opera Weekly It was great to see those who attended the August All My Children fan gathering in New York. What a great bunch of people. There is nothing better than meeting the fans in person. A very very special thank you to the "Barr Association" group of fans who are just an amazing, vocal, supportive group of fabulous women who simply will never give up on Brooke !! And most importantly, I wanted to let those of you who have been affected by hurricane Katrina know that my deepest thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones. There are no words to comfort you and I can only imagine what it must be like to live amongst the devastation. Many fans have written me to specifically express concern about the animals involved in the tragedy, since they are aware of my connection with animal welfare groups. For that reason I wanted to provide you with some information: The Humane Society of the United States has resources at http://www.hsus.org and the site is updated SEVERAL times DAILY. If people want to report lost or stranded pets as a result of Katrina, they can call the HSUS toll free number at 1-800-HUMANE-1. The HSUS can help you. Be safe. The leaves are falling here and the temperatures are finally dropping. This is such a gorgeous time of year and I really enjoy the change in weather and the sign of the holidays just around the corner. To celebrate Fall and to usher in the shopping season (two months till Christmas!), I am offering a special "gift with purchase" on my animal note cards if you do your holiday shopping early! Between October 19 and November 19, if you purchase the note cards, you will also receive a personalized autographed color 8 x 10 photo/headshot. I can even write a personalized holiday greeting on the photo if you choose. For each pack of cards you order, you will get one signed photo. For those of you who are not aware of the cards, here is the background: My very talented (and handsome!) artist husband Richie has been drawing over the years and he started doing fabulous pastels of our friends' own adorable cats and dogs as a special tribute to these special animal companions. The portraits have become such a hit with people that we turned them into something we can share with everyone - and hope that it brings attention to how important animal companions are in our lives. We are donating a portion of card sales to animal welfare groups around the country. There are two note card packs available to buy, each featuring 8 different drawings - cats and dogs. Each 8 pack is $14.00 (plus s + h). To view the cards and to order, please call or visit http://www.daisynotes.com/collection or https://juliarosebarr.com. Thank you for your support with this project - it is for a good cause! Many of you have been asking about how my daughter is doing in college. Well, of course I take any excuse to brag about her (what mom doesn't like to brag about their kids, right?!). We are so proud of her. She has been doing a great deal of performing at school. She is an excellent student and actress and, while she does have interest and talent in other areas of the theatre, she continues to gravitate back to being on stage. Her latest role - and her most challenging to date - is that of Lady Capulet in "Romeo and Juliet." She is in rehearsal now at school and we will go see her perform, of course. I can't believe how quickly the time is going -- she graduates in less than a year. And finally, on another note, I wanted to give you some helpful and important tips to keep in mind this month. Halloween causes a great many accidents and incidents that affect the health and safety of cats and dogs and I thought this would be a good time to remind you of some simple precautions you can take to keep them safe:
Be safe and have fun! Till next month.... All my best, November 2005 Newsletter Happy Thanksgiving Everyone As always, thank you for visiting Juliarosebarr.com and for your support and comments about The Fund For Animals (fund.org) and All My Children. (Please let us know if you want to be taken off this list by hitting reply on this email and writing “unsubscribe” in the subject line.) As a brief reminder, there are only FOUR days left to receive a special "gift with purchase" on my animal note cards. If you purchase the cards by Nov 19, you will also receive a personalized autographed color 8 x 10 photo/headshot on which I will include a personal holiday greeting - or any message. For each set you order, I'll send you a signed photo. For more info on the cards, which support animals, please call daisy notes + paper at or visit www.daisynotes.com/collection or juliarosebarr.com. Thank you for your support with this project - it is for a very good cause! And thanks to the many who have already ordered them. I know many of you have seen the great press we've been getting in such places as Cat Fancy and Animal Wellness Magazine. There will also be some more press/media coming up in other publications including Animal Fair and NJ Savvy Living. Okay, on to All My Children "business" which so many of you are eager to hear As far as I know at this point in time, I AM remaining on the show. I know that the rumors continue to run rampant everywhere on this matter, and I want to clarify here that there has been no change in my contract status and I plan to be around on the show for at least another year. The supportive notes you've sent have meant so much to me. I feel so very lucky to have such loyal and devoted fans who take time out of their own busy lives to write to me - and to the powers-that-be -- to express their interest in my character. And in your letters and notes of support you certainly have come up with some wonderful ideas for Brooke! It is a lot of fun for me to read your letters - and I admire your creativity in coming up with storylines. Of course the most popular one fans seem to be writing me about is a triangle with Adam and Krystal. That would seem to be an obvious step for these three characters. That would be great fun for me. Even Soap Opera Digest recently noted that this triangle would be inevitable. I wish you and yours a very happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the holiday and be safe. Till next month.. All my best, |
